Pardue Native of Louisville Saddling First Horse in Race RaceHOMER HOMER PARDUE trainer of Red Han nigan is saddling his first Derby starter A native of Louisville he has owned horses in partnership with Joe Straus one of the owners of Woodley Lane Stable for the past several years They have frequently been buyers at public auction and Red Hannigan was one so obtained Pardue be ¬ lieves that Red Hannigan has more than the proverbial fighting chance in the Derby because he has been improving at three although one of the most impressive races of his career was in the worlds richest race The Garden State In that race he broke slowly and at one time was 24 lengths off the pace But he made up much ground to finish seventh Pardue wintered Red Hannigan at New Orleans but he was only lightly raced at the Fair Grounds GroundsRed Red Hannigan is not as has been printed named for a Chicago cafe operator but rather for a friend of one of the owners of Woodley Lane The Red Hannigan was a flyer in the last war
