Armstrong Training Since 42 Has Followed Many Pursuits PursuitsREID REID ARMSTRONG trainer of Timely Tip is saddling his first Kentucky Derby starter Armstrong has had a varied experi ¬ ence and although a trainer since 1942 he previously had engaged in many other lines of endeavor including being a restau ¬ rant owner a farmer and a promoter of boxing and wrestling matches Armstrong was born in 1892 making him the oldest trainer with a Derby starter He makes his home in Muncie Ind Armstrongs first win ¬ ner was Season Call who scored at Wheel ¬ ing Downs in 1942 He has been training for Dr A L Birch since 1951 and he be ¬ lieves that Timely Tip is the best horse he has ever conditioned
