Eleven -Horse Field Competes In 0,275 Leonard Richards 11. rr g c . . in f u e a c c F a I s P E a r C f a s t s 1 t t c l t : J 1 1 i Greentree Starts Diving 4 Board, Dream of Glory in Quest of 4th Win in Stake By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June The Leonard Richards Stakes, the most memorable renewal of which saw Greentree Stables powerful coupling of Capot and Wine List disqualified after having finished first and third, respectively, the four -horse 1949 edition, comes up for decision for the seventeenth time Saturday afternoon. With 11 three-year-olds entered overnight to compete at the mile and a furlong distance, this running becomes the jichest in history, with the successful owner to receive 9,190 of the 0,275 gross purse. In this wide-open renewal of the Leonard Richards, the Greentree establishment may again furnish the favorites, with Diving Board and Dream of Glory scheduled to sport the popular silks. Other prominent prospects are Woodley Lane Farms Red Hannigan, Wheatley Stables Full Flight and Cornelius V. Whitneys Catspaw. The remainder of the field is composed of Circle M Farms War Doings, Christiana Stables Mememsha, Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Biloxi, King Ranchs High Button, and Howell E. Jacksons Chateau. Diving Board and Dream of Glory will strive to round out a quartet of victories in the stake for Greentree owners John Hay Whitney and Mrs. Charles Shipman Pay-son, whose previous victors were Swing and Sway, Dockstader and Hall of Fame. Both colts come up to the nine-furlong test well-recommended. Third in Peter Pan ,In his most recent appearance, Diving Board, a son of Devil Diver, was a bang-up third behind High Gun and Fisherman in the Peter Pan. That effort followed a pair of victories in allowance company, one of which saw him cover a mile in 1:37$. Dream of -Glory won his last at the same distance in 1:38 after having finished second behind two top sophomores in Chevation and War of Roses. Catspaw, through his victory in last years Juvenile at Belmont Park, must handle topweight of 119 pounds, which calls for him to spot his rivals from three to five pounds. His record is unimpressive, though he did manage to win a pair of allowance races, one of them at a mile and EDWARD J. BRENNAN General manager of the Monmouth Park Jockey Club, whose meeting gets under way today. a sixteenth in 1:43. In last weeks Kent he could finish no better than ninth in the bulky field. Full Flight finished in front of Catspaw and Menemsha while finishing second behind Chevation in the Kent, proving no match for his conqueror after having moved to the fore on the final turn and holding the lead until midstretch. The Wheatley gray has been twice fourth in stakes competition, finishing in that position in both the Everglades and Jersey. Menemsha, prior to the Kent, has registered a trio of sprint victories in eight starts. Red Hannigan, whose only score this year came in an allowance race at Keene-land, gained some recognition in the Jersey Stakes by finishing seond in back of War of Roses. He is recommended by several good training moves over the local course and should attract considerable support.
