UNITED PRESS NEWS ROUND-UP NATIONAL: McKay Asks Congress for ,275,000 WASHINGTON, D. C, June 11. Interior Secretary Douglas McKay asked Congress today to appropriate an added ,275,000 for work in fiscal 1955 on national parkways and roads in national parks. The money, with ,225,000 in the departments regular appropriation bill, would finance the first years work on a 0,000,000 program, he said. The program was authorized earlier, but its details, were made public with McKays announcement. McCarthy Denies Request to Stevens WASHINGTON, D. C, June 11. Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy denied under oath today that he asked Army Secretary Robert T. Stevens to assign Pvt. G. David Schine to the New York area. His statment contradicted Army Secretary Robert T. Stevens sworn testimony. Southern Governors Differ on Segregation RICHMOND, Va., June 11. A conference of southern governors revealed that 12 of 17 states involved in the IT. S. Supreme Courts school desegregation ruling may not comply "voluntarily." Gov. Thomas Stanley of Virginia announced this finding after a closed-door session with governors or other delegates from 15 states who met to discuss the Supreme Court ruling. Adams, Descendant of Two Presidents, Dies BOSTON, Mass., June 11. Charles Francis Adams, 87, descendant of two presidents of the United States, died at his home here today. He was secretary of navy from 1929 to 1933. Split Between President, Farm Bloc Widens WASHINGTON, D. C, June 11 The split between President Eisenhower and powerful members of the Congressional Farm Bloc widened today in the wake of Mr. Eisenhowers renewed appeal for a flexible support plan. Sen. Milton R. Young R-N.D. declared the Republican party "might as well write off" the Midwest in future presidential elections if the GOP formally embraces the flexible program. Young is a leading champion of the present high rigid support program for basic corps. Martin Calls for GOP Congress Election WASHINGTON, D. C, June 11. House Speaker Joseph W. Martin, Jr., today called for the election of another Republican Congress "to prevent the complete destruction" of President Eisenhowers legislative program. "If control of the next Congress falls into the hands of the opposition party, .the FOREIGN: VietMinh Demands France Surrender Delta Geneva, Fwitzerland, June ll.--The Communist Viet Minn was reported by responsible sources to have demanded today the surrender by France of all the rich and strategic Red River delta, excepting the cities of Hanoi and Haphong, in the "re-groupment" of forces after a cease-fire. Hanio and Haiphong, these sources said, would be "sitting ducks," completely surrounded by Communist forces. Red Chinese to Reply on Americas Release GENEVA, Switzerland, June 11. S. formally asked that the Americans, including 34 jailed civilians and 29 servicemen, be allowed to return home. French Pummel 100,000 Communists HANOI, Indochina, June 11. French pilots in American-made planes today pum-meled some of the 100,000 Communist regular troops and guerillas infesting the Red River delta. A French high Command spokesman said the bombers rocked rebel bases in the northeast section of Indochinas great rice bowl, hitting hardest at stockpiles in Nghai Phu and Co Noi.
