Luciete After Third Win In Row at River Downs Consistent Filly Has Eleven to Turn Back Today in Andre Purse By W. A. CRUSE - Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 11. The ,000 Andre Purse, fourth of the seventeen events on the 1954 feature schedule, will be decided tomorrow, the second Saturday of this 44-day session. For three-year-olds and older horses, it ia an allowance race with a mile and 70 yards setting. A maximum starting field of 12 accepted the issue and it should prove to be. one of the most interesting of the features to date. J. T. Simmons and W. F. Finns Luciete will be out for her third consecutive victory at the meeting. The Grandpal filly is the only campaigner at the meeting who has chalked up two for two and the majority of the ones to compete against her will be trying for a second visit to the winners circle. Lucietes scores, however, were impressive ones and in five starts this year she has won four and had one. third. A heavy track seems to be her forte and even if the sun continues to shine brightly the track tomorrow will have to be "off" some, after the heavy rains of last night and early this morning. Luciete scored a two-length victory over W. B. Bax, Sr.?s Joyce Ann B. in the Fountain Square Purse and negotiated six furlongs in 1 : 14 while the strip was heavy. Prior to that, over the same kind of race track she was a .length and one-quarter the best of W. Wells Grand Cella in the Welcome Purse, the opening attraction at this meeting. Jockey Anthony "Tony" Li-cata will again pilot her and it is quie probable that the combination will go postward as the odds-on favorite. Edward Golladays Pollys Knight is one of the more impressive of the group which will be trying for another set of brackets. This decidedly fine-looking Gilded Knight mare and jockey Norman Hart came from well out of it in the mile and one-sixteenth New River Downs Purse to be a head the best of F. M. Ashbys Ball Hawk. George McFarlands Frisky Jimmy was third in the same event, Mrs. N. M. Reiffs Mel-mars U. N. was fifth, D. W. Crutchfields Black Charger was sixth and E. Sorbers Ferol S. was seventh. They have all accepted the challenge and will be putting forth a strong effort to furnish the bone of contention. Others in the event include E. Frisse and W. Jones Storm of Gold, J. H. Homans Adelantado, S. I. Crews Jack Tar, F. Hansers Naomi, K. Hodges Bold Gal and C. B. Hudsons Deep Situation.
