The Lincoln Fields Racing Association presents the seventh running of its premier two-year-old filly race, the Miss America Stakes,.Saturday But attractive and interesting as it is, the stake must share the limelight with another event on the best over-all program of the Illinois season so lar. Enjoying feature billing with the eight young fillies entered for the Miss America ?-of ,six versatile runners named for the Lincoln Prep Handicap, a seven-furlong race, fashioned as a tune-up for candidates for the 0,000 mile and one -sixteenth Lincoln Handicap the following Saturday, June 19. It was a rather eloquent tribute to Charlton Clays spectacular Lea Lane that the connections of only seven of the other 44 Kn2 nomies for the Miss America " elected to try the brilliant brown daughter uNaSTr.UiIahrLea Lark the 5,000 stake. It has been a long time since a juvenile of either sex has built-up such l6cal prestige as Lea Lane has succeeded in doing so quickly m r her trials and lone start; ?f i S on by eight lenSths here at Lincoln Fields on May 27. Opponents of Choice The seven named to meet the Clay filly are Fred W. Hopers Fierce, Emil Dene-marks Future Romance, C. and p. Farms Joan E. L., Hill-n-Dale Farms Countess Amta, Locust Lawn Farms Next Option, Clifford Mooers Serry, and Milton Resse-guets Sweet Josie. Besides Lea Lane, Future Romance, Fierce, and Next Option are homebreds, produced on the farms of their present owners. Future Romance and Next Option are Illinois foals. Fierce, a daughter of Pry, the latter a rather obscure son of the good race horse and sire, Questionnaire, was foaled on Hoopers farm at Birmingham, Ala. Lea Lane, Sweet Josie, Joan E. L., Countess Anita, and Serry are Kentucky-bred. Sweet Josies victory over Future Romance in the Anita Peabody Purse on May 29 was her second win. She previously won at Keeneland on April 22. Sweet Josie was a ,000 yearling, later being purchased privately by her present owner. Well Regarded Although Maiden Although she is one of the three maidens in the race Next Option and Countess Anita being the others, Serry figures to be bne of Lea Lanes principal rivals in the Miss America. She was second in the Debutante at Churchill Downs on Derby Day and has turned in some encouraging works for trainer Harry E. Brown since her arrival here. Serry, bred by Mereworth Farm, is a daughter of Spy Song Santa Roseanna, by Rosemont, and was purchased privately by her millionaire owner, who operates one of the leading thoroughbred nurseries in Kentucky, where he bred Hasty Road. Joan E. L., owned by Dr. Charles Cas-trope and Julius Potrykus, of Detroit, who races at the C. and P. Farm, was a ,500 yearling purchase, while Countess Anita brought 9,000 at auction. Next Option, by the stakes .winning Corona Corona, is the latest produce of her dam, Beaushera, to come to the races. All of Beausheras foals have won, including Adaption, holder of the American record for six furlongs on a grass course. Lee Lane drew the No. 1 post position, which, with her quickness, will be no handicap to her. Kenneth Church, who rode her in her spectacular debut, will ride her again tomorrow. Fred W. Hoopers English - bred five-year-old stallion, Olympic, 114, heads the small field for the Lincoln Prep. His opponents are Mrs. J. P. Keezeks Abbe Sting, 112; Elizabeth Mucklers Heutel, 110; John Warrens Living Doll, 110, and Mrs. Herbert Herff s Screemin Jack, 109. Other races on. this Saturday card are named for the former Miss America stakes winners, Juliets Nurse and Princess Lygia.
