DUCKHUNTER, never far back, responded readily to take command when called upon inside the stretch and steadily drew clear. RUSSET ORANGE moved up menacingly to reach near even terms for the lead at the furlong marker, but was unable to cope with the winner when the real test came. RUM BUMBLE, away fastest, held sway to the stretch, then weakened. CARETAKER was unable to improve his position when briskly ridden through the late stages. SIMPLE tired. FUSION BOMB lacked a rally. SPY ENCORE failed to stay. RIFFLE raced evenly. SMITHTOWN quit. MRS. CAESAR and NEMESIA both lacked early speed. SABER SHARP and NORTHQUEST were outrun. YOUNG GANDER showed brief speed, then faltered. BEST SIDE rallied mildly nearing the furlong marker, but weakened when punished. BURNT THROAT. and the others never were dangerous. CQCHITO, allowed to settle into best stride, came fast to take command when ready entering the stretch and briskly drew clear while in hand. LITTLE LISA raced BENZEL into defeat after six furlongs, but was unable to cope with the winner when hard ridden through the late stages. BENZEL displayed high speed from the start, but faltered when set down for the final test YOUNG COLONY raced evenly through the stretch without mishap. NAVAL AFFAIRE was unable to keep up. JUSTA BREAK was sent into closer contention after a quarter mile, but failed to, rally-when called-upon for the drive. OUBAAS began sluggishly. TOURLANX never menaced. The latter, slow to gain best stride, was sent into closer contention on the far turn, came to the inside for the drive and finished with good energy. SEMPER EADEM raced in nearest pursuit cf the leader from immediately after the start, bobbled badly at the next.to last jump and tired thereafter. BLANDYSTONE had no apparent mishap.
