GIRL RIDERS VERSUS BOYS. Agua Oaliente to Stage "Mixed Special" 1 Next Sunday With Male and Female Riders. AGUA C ALTENTE,- Mexico, June 3. Agua Caliente, the home of unique turf features, is planning another contest off the beaten path next Sunday. The affair i3 a race in which lady riders will compete against regular jockeys, and the fair pilots that have been granted permission to ride vow that they can hold their own against the regular jockeys. The race will be known as the Mixed Special, and among the feminine saddle artists to perform will be Hilda Hauser, Daisy Parsons, Peggy Childs, Alice Van and Reba Gray. Miss Hauser has gained considerable fame by winning all three races for lady jockeys, held on the coast this summer. The little beauty operator from Encinitas won the Coronado and La Jolla Town Plates at Calinte, and the Burlingame Town Plate which was decided at Tanforan. The mixed race comes as a result of the requests of Misses Hauser and Parsons for regular jockey licenses. The girls performed so creditably in recent contests that presiding steward George Schilling decided to give the little ladies a chance to prove their worth and, if the saddle form that they have shown in the past is any criterion, the boys had best look to their laurels. The girls will be required to pit their skill against such riders as Ralph Neves, outstanding western apprentice and one of the greatest developments in coast riding ranks in recent years; E. Jelley, cagey veteran; Virgil Thompson, who is leading the jockeys at Agua Caliente; George Fields, former star of New York tracks, and other topnotchers. Should one of the ladies -win the contest it is possible that a turf precedent may be set in feminine riders being granted permission to perform in standard races. Never before has a woman been granted a jockeys license on the turf, and the management has intimated that should one of the girls win she should obtain permission to perform regularly.
