CAPTAIN HENRY had the most speed throughout, set the pace under mild reserve, responded gamely to strong pressure and withstood the bold bid of RIFF. The latter, kept well up under hustling tactics and saving much ground, offered strong contention in the closing stages and was getting to the winner. HAROLD WILEY, on the inside throughout, finished gamely under punishment. OUR SAMMY, on the outside from the break and forced to lose much ground, came fast in the final stages when placed to punishment. POLL PARROT could not keep up under strong riding. PANAY, well handled, attained a forward position early, came around the leader in the stretch, then held sway under pressure. CARL S. improved his position gradually, closed resolutely and was offering strong contention. MACAWLEE sprinted into a commanding lead early, gave way when challenged, then held on with good courage. OFFENDER, away sluggishly, lacked speed, was forced to lose ground improving its position and finished resolutely. SOJOURN raced well for a half mile, then tired. PICKAWAY had no excuses. DELTON, away well, could not keep up. BOSTON MARY, rushed to contention early, forced the pace to the final eighth, overhauled KABO in the stretch, then drew out to win with something left. The latter, hustled into the lead soon after the start, maintained its position under occasional pressure, then faltered when placed to punishment. BRILLIANT STATE, kept well up under mild pressure, failed to better its position when punished. HILL JIMMY finished resolutely from a slow beginning. CLIVE, slow to get going and inclined to bear in most of the way, finished well when straightened. LEEORAN could not keep up under strong riding. POLITE ANN began fast, but quit early. MYRIAD was outrun. YANKEE WATERS, taken in hand while racing close to the pace, took command in the stretch, then stood a long drive camely to oulfinish JESSIE DEAR. The latter, outrun to the stretch, came to the inside for the drive, responded gamely to punishment and was overhauling the winner. BABESON improved its position gradually, came to the outside when gaining and offered strong contention to the final sixteenth, but faltered in the final strides. EDDY LEE, a strong factor for five-eighths, tired under strong riding. GRASSWRACK gave way badly after racing well up to the final eighth. MISS WISE quit. SIR KOSTER was outrun. STEALINGAWAY set the pace under mild reserve, but faltered when subjected to strong riding. ENIZ began slowly, reached contention approaching the stretch, but failed to keep up in the final stages. LAWYER BRIGADE, taken in hand for the early racing, failed to be dangerous when subjected to pressure. JERDAN, much tised in the early stages, tired badly under punishment.
