i ABANDON PLAN TO BUILD TRACK AT WEST MEMPHIS A MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 26 Because of difficulty in obtaining property and other unexpected obstacles, the Arkansas Jockey Club, headed by Dover Barrett, has abandoned plans for building a track at West Memphis, Ark., according to a statement given out here by Barrett. The club had made one payment on land for the proposed plant and was ready to make the final one "when so many things came up we decided to call off the whole proposition," Barrett said. Barrett also reported a threat to contest renewal of the clubs franchise on July 9 also contributed to the combination of complications that made the project too difficult. The club will be dissolved and all those who subscribed for stock will be reimbursed, he said. Advices reaching here from Little Rock indicate that the Arkansas State Racing Commission may advertise the West Memphis franchise to the highest acceptable bidder at its next meeting. The franchise held by the Arkansas Jockey Club was issued last July and expires July 9.
