ROMAN SOLDIER COMING HERE Elwood Sachsenmaiers Good Colt To Be Nominated for Several Rich Arlington Park Stakes. Roman Soldier, one of the better three-year-olds last season and victorious in his only two starts so far this year, will be pointed for an intensive Arlington Park campaign, Phil Reuter, trainer of Elwood Sachsenmaiers good colt, has informed officials of the North Side course. The black son of Cohort and Miamba is to be nominated for the Arlington Inaugural Handicap, at seven furlongs; Stars and Stripes Handicap, at a mile and a furlong, and the Arlington Handicap, at a mile and one-quarter. The latter two events are 0,000 added stakes, and the opening feature will carry a ,500 purse. Nominations to these races along with the Arlington Classic and Hyde Park Stakes close June 15. No horse has yet proven successful in all three of the Arlington fixtures open to older performers, although Indian Runner won both the Inaugural and Stars and Stripes two years in a row, only to fail in the Arlington Handicap when he sought a clean sweep the second year. Last year Discovery triumphed in the two 0,000 affairs, but he did not participate in the opening sprint. Roman Soldiers finest performance last year was in the Kentucky Derby, in which he finished second to Omaha. Previously the Sachsenmaier colt had won the Texas Derby, Hialeah Inaugural Handicap and Bahama Handicap, and afterwards he was victorious in the Detroit Derby and second in the Illinois Derby. Injuries prevented him from displaying his best form in the American Derby and Classic, and he was retired for the season after the latter event. The Sachsenmaier four-year-olds made his debut at Pimlico in a six furlongs sprint and defeated a good field although called upon to take up top weight of 126 pounds. He handled a similar impost to defeat even sterner opposition in his next effort, which was at Belmont Park, and also over the six furlongs course.
