I DETROIT TURF NOTES $ , $ Apprentice T. Melochc was fined 5 for striking jockey E. Rodiguez with his whip soon after the start of the seventh race Monday. The condition of Benny Jacobs, paddock judge, was unchanged Tuesday morning and it is believed it will be some time before he will be able to resume his official duties. During his illness John Carey is acting as paddock judge. Spencer Bullman is making the engagements for jockey J. Rosen. Kirk and ONeil purchased the plater Charming Sir from A. H. Rhoades. J. A. Kirk will train the horse. The J. McCarthy stable purchased the two-year-olds Fumble and Queen Full from William Zakoor. T. D. Buhl bought the plater Phalarope from A. G. Wilson, and he will continue to be trained by Wilson. Jockey Earl Porter has been engaged to ride Grand Rock in the Colonel Alger Memorial Handicap, and one of the Odessa Farm Stables eligibles in the Detroit Derby. F. Ianni announced that Biff, which bowed during the Arlington Downs meeting, has been returned to training. Jockey Allan Gray arrived from California and will ride free lance. E. F. Saltzman checked in with the platers Outside and Queen Macaw. F. A. Kelly, who owned the good filly Helen Dean, unloaded Appomattox, Prohibition and Westdav, which were vanned from Aurora. The horses R. B. Allen brought here are Magic Line, John M. Kover, Celtic Prince, Kitty Kover, Geraldine M., Aptime, Brass Buttons, Sparkling Rose and Palatine Bell.
