PREVARICATE raced into contention with a rush, was steadied along in back of the leaders, moved up on the outside when reaching the stretch, took command and drew clear at the end. SAY WHEN had speed from the Start, was much used in shaking off LADY DAY and was unable to cope with the bid of the winner. SOMALI, badly outpaced early, closed with a rush on the outside and was traveling fastest at the close. LADY DAY was much used in racing with the pacemaker and faltered in the closing test. TALL OAK, unruly at the post, was hard hustled to go into contention and was unable to improve his position through the stretch under vigorous urging. Overweight Enfin, 4 pounds. LITTLE PAULA was slow to begin, began moving up gradually after leaving the back stretch, closed stoutly through the stretch and was going away at the end. MOONBURN, kept within striking distance of the pace, assumed a slight lead inside the last eighth, but was unable to maintain his advantage under punishment and barely lasted to save second place from MOCK MODESTY. The latter closed with a rush on the outside and would probably have been second in another stride. WHITTLE was unable to improve his position under punishment. LOVELY DAY closed some ground. GAY SWEEP faltered in the stretch run. UNFURL had the most early speed, but quit badly in the final quarter mile. Overweight Unfurl, 3 pounds. THIRD RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. DIXIE PRINCESS displayed speeed from the start, drew clear after LILLEEN began tiring and, despite holding on stoutly, was unable to withstand the winners bid. LOOKOUT BOYS, under pressure, was unable to keep up early, but closed with a rush on the outside through the stretch. MASKED REVUE, outpaced for a half mile, moved up fast on the inside and closed going camclv. FORTUNATE YOUTH made a bold effort to reach the leader, but faltered under pressure. LILLEEN quit badlv. BLACK HIGHBROW, under steadying restraint, loomed up threateninely nearing the stretch, but was unable to impiovc his position through the last eighth. COL. BIXER was prominent "early, but was unable to keep pace with the leaders in the closing test. HERONDAS was never a threat. BALCONY displayed keen early speed, but quit to a walk through the stretch. LEGUME took, up the running at the first turn, opened up a comfortable lead and, fighting it out courageously, just missed. FURFIBER fought it out with the pacemaker the last three-eighths and held on well at the end. GOV. SHOLTZ was unable to improve his position. ROCK POINT, showing sharp improvement, took command rounding, the first turn, was rated along in front while withstanding determined opposition from JOHN WERRING and, despite fighting it out in game fashion, was unable to cope with the winners bid. ONRUSH was forced to take up when on the inside down the back stretch, was taken to the outside for the closing test and closed with good energy. IDLE ALONG, kept prominently placed from the start, wore down ST. MORITZ for the lead and, continuing determinedly, had enough left to stave off the closing challenge of XANDRA. The latter moved up fast leaving the back stretch and closed going stoutly on the outside through the stretch. EL PUMA was unable to improve his position during the opening three-quarters and came stoutly through the closing sixteenth. ST. MORITZ displayed good speed in paccmaking, but tired in the last five-sixteenths. BUSTER BOY, well placed though in close quarters for most of the way, was unable to improve his position in the closing drive. STEELHEAD, well placed, was unable to keep pace under punishment. ONEILL assumed a slight lead after straightening out in the back stretch, fought it out determinedly and just missed. ONEILLS rider lodged a claim of foul, but it was not allowed. CAMP PAROLE, outrun early, closed going gamely in the last quarter mile. MATHIAS was in close quarters in the back stretch, had to ease back, moved up stoutly, but faltered in the final drive. LILLIAN Z. tired after going three-quarters. EARLY CALL was never prominent.
