ACORN STAKES HEADLINER ,500 Filly Race Heads Belmont Park Program Today May Be Worth 3,700 to Winner. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 26. Three-year-old fillies are in the spotlight at Belmont Park tomorrow afternoon when the Westchester Association will renew the Acorn Stakes, a gallop of one mile for that division. This is a prize to which ,500 is added and with thirteen of the eligibles named to perform, its estimated value will be 3,700. The Acorn closed last December with 134 nominations and of that big entry there remained thirty-four eligibles after every payment except the starting fee had been paid. Of the eleven, James Fitzsimmons promises to saddle two in Whitney Stones Blue Sheen and the Wheatley Stables Mag Mell. Another team will be sent out by "Bud" Stotler, who has chosen Spank and Spring-lock to carry the silks of A. G. Vanderbilt. George D. Widener is represented by High Fleet, the swift running daughter of Jack High, and Max Hirsch has Split Second, from, the King Ranch as his candidate. The daughter of Sortie was winner of the Selima Stakes at Laurel last year as her most notable achievement. Marshall Fields Sea Cradle, which was sent to Narragansett Park by George Odom, is back to fill the engagement and the C. V. Whitney starter will be Tonys Wife. Others to complete the field are Willis Sharpe Kilmers Beau Flower, Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Sweet as Sugar and E. D. Shaffers Flora-dora. Blue Sheen is yet to be beaten. She won her only start as a two-year-old and has won three races this year and while her last race was seven furlongs and a score over older horses, the daughter of Toro has been kept at sprinting. High Fleet is another that has impressed this season by her brilliant sprinting and she is capable of keeping Blue Sheen extremely busy. Split Second, in her Selima victory, indicated that she could carry her speed a mile and while in her only start this season she was beaten, she probably needed that race and she has worked well enough for Hirsch to indicate a readiness for the Acorn. Sea Cradle is at her best and these comprise the ones on which the best recent line has been established. While the Acorn has real importance in its own right just as the Withers leads up to the Belmont, it leads up to the Coaching Club American Oaks of a mile and three furlongs and to be decided next Wednesday. These two prizes are of big importance among the specials for the fillies and the most notable of the Westchester Association session.
