BABESON, taken in hand early and on the inside to the final eighth, was lucky to escape interference when taken out, overhauled NOMA F. in the final stages and appeared ready to draw away. The latter sprinted to the front early, continued gamely, gave way to the winner, yet offered good contention. ABBY B., well up throughout, faltered near the end. PARADE STEP forced the pace to the Final eighth, then tired. GAMALIEL, forced to lose ground throughout, gave a good performance. EDDY LEE had no excuse. The others were never dangerous. CHIGRE hustled to contention early, maintained "a forward position under occasional pressure, came to the outside for the drive, responded gamely to strong pressure and was up to win in the Final strides. A photograph was used to determine the winner. GOOD CATCH, away well, took command soon after the start, continued gamely thereafter, but could not resist the winner. TARTARUS began fast, was taken in hand when GOOD CATCH raced to the front, was subjected to strong pressure in the stretch; but tired. PUTZEN failed to keep pace after reaching contention. SHINING JEWEL, well handled, was taken under mild reserve while racing close to the pace, moved to the leader when urged, stood a long drive gamely and won in the concluding strides. ROBERT S. displayed good speed from the start, set the pace under steady restraint, offfercd strong contention when challenged, but could not withstand the winner. KING CICERO, on the inside throughout, closed gamely under strong riding, but was no threat. BILLIES ORPHAN raced evenly without mishap. SCORE tired in the drive. RETTEF rushed to a commanding lead soon after the start, withstood several challenges, shook off YENOC, then FIRST TRY and drew out to win with something left. YENOC, a strong factor from the start, gave way to FIRST TRY leaving the back stretch, but came again and closed gamely. FIRST TRY, subjected to strong riding attaining a forward position, forced the winner to the final eighth, then faltered. " BILL BLEIWEISS began slowly, moved up in the stretch, but was never dangerous. BAKUUuA quit. CAYUGA had early speed. CACARINA was outrun. Scratched-Frank P., 105. RE-SWEEP, a formidable factor throughout, gave way briefly in the stretch, but rallied to strong riding and closed resolutely. VIRNOCK, well up from the start, offered a determined bid entering the stretch but failed to keep pace in the final stages. JUST AHEAD, a contender to the final eighth, tired. The others were outrun. MARY TERRY gained gradually, came fast in the stretch, offered good contention, but was not good enough. SNOW FAIRY finished resolutely from a slow beginning. SKY O BLUE quit. BYRDINE improved its position gradually, responded gamely to strong riding and finished resolutely. LUCY, slow to attain her best stride, came to the inside in the stretch and was going gamely in the final stages. FAIR CYNTHIA went well under a hustling ride. GOLDEN BEAM had no excuse.
