SAM0AN IN THE LIMELIGHT Makes Amends for Poor Showing in Kings Plate by Winning Rosedale Purse at Woodbine. TORONTO, Ont., May 28. Racing with tho absence of blinkers, which were part of his equipment in tho Kings Plate, in which ho proved a dud, enabled E. F. Seagrams Samoan to atone for tbat performance when he mado a show of five other home-bred sprinters of the better grade in tho Rosedale Purse, an allowance affair, at six furlongs, fifth and best offering at Woodbine Park today. Making the running for every stride of tho journey, the fleet son of Spey Pearl and Samoa covered the distance in good time and reached the finish leading J. E. Smallmans Ladymuch, which finished fourth in the Canadian classic by three lengths, while Penabud, from the H. C. Hatch barn, easily proved best of the three others under colors. In the Rosedale, several minutes were lost before the start came, and it found Penabud jumping into the air, and naturally last of the lot, the others being away in good order. J. Hunter had the mount on the victor, and he permitted the Seagram gelding to race along at a good clip to lead Jthe way with Spring Moon and Penabud in chase. Reaching the home stretch, Samoan drew into the lead by two lengths, then continued strongly to increase his margin approaching the finish. Ladymuch had little difficulty in landing the place award, she having a two and a half length advantage over the Hatch miss, which was made too much use of getting into contention after her awkward beginning. Clear and crisp weather prevailed for the fifth day of the current meeting at Woodbine Park, home of the Ontario Jockey Club, and the assemblage was the smallest since the meeting was ushered in last Saturday. Large fields were in order and, chiefly composed of the most common platers at the course, as reflected in the wagering, which was comparatively light.
