BENJAMIN JACOBS DIES DETROIT, Mich., May 28 Benjamin Jacobs, widely known racing official and paddock judge at Detroit, died at his home here this morning from a heart attack. Prior to his association with the Detroit Racing Association he worked for thirty-three years for A. M. Orpen on the Canadian circuit as clerk of the scales. He worked for the old Latonia Jockey Club and was agent for J. B. Respess when the Negro rider, James Lee, was under contract to owner Respess. The deceased, who is survived by his wife, three sisters, Misses Hattie, Minnie and Jennie Jamobs of Detroit, and a brother, Philip Jacobs, of Sault Ste. Marie, had been in ill health for several years but he was not forced to relinquish his duties until Monday. Since then he failed steadily. If he had lived until July 26 judge Jacobs would have been sixty-two years old. He was born in Detroit and always made it his home.
