ALGER MEMORIAL WORKOUTS DETROIT, Mich., May 28. Sir Michael, Polar Flight, Safe and Sound and Wood-lander had their final preparations for Saturdays renewal of the ,000 added Colonel Alger Memorial Handicap over a fast track this morning. Sir Michael, working alone, breezed a mile in 1:44 after reeling off the quarter in :26, the half mile in :52 and three-quarters in 1:18. Polar Flight had Matapeake as a companion and breezed three-quarters in 1:16. Safe and Sound went the same distance in the same time, and Woodlander covered a half mile in :52.
