GOLDEN SILENCE, away quickly and forcing a fast early pace, rallied nicely to strong urging when straightened into the stretch and, closing gamely, wore SLYCAT down inside the final sixteenth. SLYCAT moved into the lead under severe pressure, saved ground and held on determinedly under punishment. CEASE FIRE raced forwardly and came with a rush right at the close, although finishing in very tight quarters. GOANWIN, sluggish in the first quarter mile, settled in her best stride and closed with good speed. JESMORE was held safe. NOISETTE raced well placed, but failed to gain when shaken up. CELERITAS, fencing faultlessly, raced into an easy lead, was momentarily overtaken between the sixth and seventh jumps, regained command at the eighth fence and held sway for the balance of the trip. WILFRID G. followed closest to the winner from the start, took brief command between the sixth and seventh jumps, but was no match for the winner. PEKISKO lost his rider at the twelfth fence, was remounted to finish the course, but was disqualified when a substitute rider did not make the required weight, being six pounds light. The latter, rated off the early pace, challenged strongly when reaching the stretch, but could not make up any ground approaching the finish. LADY MARNOCK raced close up for the first seven-eighths, then tired after making repeated bids. NO RETREAT finished full of run. SHADY WELL fell far out of contention and was unable to threaten thereafter. CHICKPEN raced forwardly for three-quarters, then tired. The latter, kept within striking distance of the leaders, came to the outside and finished stoutly in the closing test. THE MINER held a forward position all the way and held on gamely. PHILDIA raced into a clear lead in the first half mile, but tired in the last quarter mile. HASTY BELLE obtained racing room on the inside all the way and had no excuses. NELL KUHLMAN broke slowly and could not reach contention. FEUDAL LORD was away nicely, but was never dangerous. The others were outrun. PARITY was steadied in front in the early stages, rallied when shaken up, but could not withstand the winner. OUR TROUBLE saved ground until leaving the back stretch, tame to the outside to reach a forward position, but was not good enough in the final drive. SKIPSEA tired after seven-eighths.
