1 FOREIGN TURF NOTES I j Gordon Richards, Englands champion jockey, had a field day at Chepstow on Saturday, May 16, riding three winners in six races and was beaten a headn another. Mistress Ford, the best two-year-old in France last year and undefeated, suffered her first reverse as a three-year-old in the Poule dEssair de Pouliches at Ldngchamps Sunday, May 17. Japans only woman jockey has had her license revoked because the Department of Agriculture has ruled that "the mixing of the sexes on the race course may lead to undesirable results, as the male jockeys may find themselves competing, not for racing favors, but for the favors of their women rivals." The race was two miles, two furlongs and 77 yards. The American sportsman, John Hay j Whitney, has presented the crack jumper Thomond II., which finished third in the Grand National both in 1934 and 1935, to Lady Ursula Filmer Sankey, who will hunt the gelding next season. Coronach, Epsom Derby winner of 1926 and winner of 47,37" during his career on the turf, is considered the best son of Hurry On in the stud in England today.
