MARS COLT WINS AGAIN Nations Taste Scores Second Victory in Three Starts. Awkward Son of Stimulus Gives Opponents Decisive Beating in Lake Michigan Purse. Nations Taste, not the most graceful-actioned juvenile campaigning at Hawthorne but capable of taking care of himself with fast company, raced to his second triumph in but three starts all during the present meeting and added another purse to the coffers of Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Milky Way Farms with a decisive victory over six of his age in the Lake Michigan Purse at that course Friday. Conducting himself in a fashion befitting one held in such lofty esteem that mutuel odds against him were 7 to 10, the Chicago-owned youngster never gave his many backers or connections cause to feel uneasy. Breaking in front, he literally toyed with T. C. Wordens Inscolt as he set the early pace under restraint. When straight for the run through the final quarter, he quickly opened up a good lead, then continued to defeat Inscolt by two lengths in l:0743 for the five and one-half furlongs. Calculator, coupled with Nedporte as the entry of the Valdina Farm, trailed the winner by six lengths as he crossed the finish third about four lengths before Black Bottle. Besides Nedporte, Rapid Hour and Jeanne Son were starters in the dash. Inscolt, which also began fast, had the advantage of a big saving of ground over the winner, which A. Robertson raced wide for almost four furlongs, but it was not enough to save him from a decisive beating, though his performance was promising. Calculator led the others at all stages. The latter and also the winner raced under top weight of 116 pounds and they were the only contestants that had won prior to this engagement. WHERE AWAY IN FRONT. Sharing feature honors with the Lake Michigan was the Fox River Purse, for older-sprinters, and it also resulted formfully, when Where Away, owned and trained by A. Pelleteri and ridden by C. Corbett, drove home winner for his second victory in successive starts. Charging from behind four of the six that opposed him. he carried his top weight of 117 pounds to the finish a length and one-half before H. Oots Marica, one of three three-year-olds to accept for the sprint. She outsped the second choice, Money Getter, which gained minor honors by a nose over Transfun. Honored Sir, Official and Cotton Club completed the field. A crowd almost equal to that of the previous afternoon, when one of the largest week-day gatherings of the meeting attended, witnessed the sport, which was staged under fine conditions. Holding on in courageous fashion after he had made all the pace, Eskay Stables Stop Scout was a driving winner over Ceallaigh in the three-quarters contest of older maidens that opened Ihe program. They drove past the judges half a length apart, with Sun X., which shared favoritism with the winner, third, about four lengths away from the runner-up. After the opening quarter, in which Maigaret G. flashed enough speed to race with the leaders, Ceallaigh was nearest in pursuit of the winner, and Sun X. in the position he held at the finish. Albrecht had the mount on the winner. Gold Thorn, 6 to H favorite, furnished by M. P. Murnans Graceland Stock Farm, Continued on third page. Aided by a spirited duel between Board Trade and Rickey Roo for pacemaking honors, .the Ohio-owned victor swept to the front in the stretch and was under the wire four lengths before Board Trade. While the latter tired badly after about five furlongs he managed to outstay the even more faint-hearted Rickey Roo by a length, with the second choice, Flight of Gold, another length back. The third race, in which eight of the better grade platers met at one mile and one- sixteenth, resulted in a mild surprise when Border Queen, ridden by apprentice R. Dot-ter, in R. T. Watts colors and the fourth choice in the betting, proved an easy winner. Running the route in 1:46, she sent her opponents down to decisive defeat. Legal Gamble, second choice to Dark Woman, raced to second place, with Kievson third and the favorite next to last. Dark Woman began in a. style most encouraging and was rading well when the winner slightly impeded her as Dotter- directed Border Queen to the front on the far turn, but this .was not sufficient excuse as she fell back rapidly after three-quarters. Light weight aided the winner. After backing him with utmost confidence, followers of the Feck-Landsberg-Pelleteri stable saw Blue Train, a son of Blue Larkspur, which had not been to the post since the Texas season, fall a victim of R. C. Thatchers Teddy gelding Teddy Haslam in the fourth race for three-year-olds. The Peck-Landsberg representative came through with an excellent performance and the Thatcher horse found him a tough adversary until within a short distance of the finish, where Teddy Haslam drew away to win by three-quarters of a length. Galmica, which accounted for show honors, was four lengths back of Blue Train at the end. Running a dull race, Naughty, which was second choice to Blue Train, never achieved a position of prominence. Higher Cloud, owned by Mrs. Emil Dene-mark, has been unsexed. Upon complete recovery from the operation he will spend a short time at the Denemark farm before resuming training.
