MURPH AND DOGAWAY Head Classy Field to Start in ,000 Hawthorne Juvenile Field. Mars Pair Top Weight and Prospective Favorites Attractive Program at Hawthorne Saturday. Led by Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Bashford Manor Stakes winner, Murph, and Dogaway, which carried the Mars silks to victory in the Juvenile Handicap at Arlington Downs, a classy field of two-year-olds is ready to contest the renewal of the 5,000 added Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap, which will feature todays racing at local Hawthorne. The Mars pair are the top weights of the field, Murph being required to take up 126 pounds, while his stable, companion must shoulder 122 pounds. Reaping Reward and Nations Taste, also named by the Mars establishment, are not expected to start. Others expected to participate in the contest, which will test the starters at five and one-half furlongs, include Bohn and Markeys Yellow Tulip and Little Shaver; M. L. Eraer-ichs Old Forester and Grey Count; Mrs. John Marschs Mondorf; E. Harrills Whis-cenda; B. B. Johnsons Madcap Yankee; Nash Brothers Overplay, and E. F. Woodwards Viajero and Tedall. With a majority of the contestants, including the Mars contingent, which is certain to rule favorite, regardless of which of the four he named, trainer Robert McGar- vey saddles for the race, locally-owned, Chicago patrons are conceded a royal chance to make a clean sweep of all of the money positions. Although Murph and Dogaway have not raced at a Chicago track, several of the candidates qualified with winning perform-" ances during the present Hawthorne meet- ing. The only actual invader is Yellow Tulip. Raced, in the main division of the Bohn and Markey stable, which has had a string at Hawthorne since the opening, Yellow Tulip was vanned here from Detroit for the Juvenile Handicap engagement. The Hawthorne unit of the stable, which is Detroit-owned, will be represented by Little Shaver, and on the strength of Yellow Tulips fine record, this combination should have a good following. Yellow Tulip and his stablemate drew imposts of 119 pounds each, the same weight being assigned Whiscenda, a double winner at the meeting; Grey Count; and the doubtful starter, Reaping Reward. Tedall is next in the weights with 117 pounds, while Overplay and Nations Taste were allotted 115 pounds each; Madcap Yankee, 114, and the others, 112 pounds each. With the Juvenile Handicap topping one of the most attractive programs of the season, only favorable racing conditions are necessary for Hawthorne to have one of its banner days, while presenting the card, the thirteenth of the meeting.
