ROMAN SOLDIER CARRIES 132 Sachsenmaier Star Saddled With Crushing Burden Today in Granite State Handicap at Salem. SALEM, N. H., June 5. Roman Soldier, victor in the Decoration Day Handicap here, will go forth in search of new worlds to conquer in the ,500 added Granite State Handicap tomorrow at Rockingham Park. The black gladiator from Elwood Sachsen-maiers stable heads a field of ten slated for the mile and a sixteenth test, and although he appears to be a strong choice off his sterling score last week, he will have no easy task. Monroe has put the crushing burden of 132 pounds on his back and he will be conceding twelve pounus to his nearest rival in the weights. C. V. Whitneys Roustabout, a winner here and a fit horse right now, is in the race under the feather of 105 and at that poundage appears a formidable factor. He may rule second choice over Identify, from the A. G. Vanderbilt barn, which will pack 116. Belair Studs Gallant Prince, a stake winner at both Belmont and Narragansett, has arrived here for the fray and will be receiving no less than thirty pounds from the top weight. Dark Hopes race last week in the Decoration, where he finished third, was not an impressive effort. He is in under 120 in the Granite State, and is conceding ten pounds to Araho Stables New Deal, a horse that finished in front of him in the holiday handicap. Frank Carters Black Gift will furnish plenty of early speed in the race. The skies were bright at the opening of todays racing and predictions were for continued good weather. A large throng is expected, though it will hardly rival the crowd of last Saturday which was the largest in the history of Rockingham Park.
