ROMAN SOLDIER TOP WEIGHT Assigned 126 Pounds for Pontchar-train Handicap at Detroit Race to Be Decided Saturday. DETROIT, Mich., June 24. Roman Soldier, winner of the 1935 running of the Detroit Derby, was assigned top weight of 126 pounds for Saturdays ,000 added Pont-chartrain Handicap. The black four-year-old, in-the event he declines his Brooklyn Handicap engagement in favor of the local mile and one-sixteenth contest, will be called upon to concede four pounds to Whopper and eight pounds to Azucar and Stand Pat. Following Azucar and Stand Pat in the line of weights is Sablin, a stablemate of the latter, which gets in under 112 pounds. Preeminent, a stable companion of Whop- j per, was allotted 107 pounds and Marynells burden 104 pounds. The weights scale down to 96 pounds, the minimum package allotted Pokcaway and Holdum Brown. As a final preparation for the race, Stand Pat breezed a mile over the fast track this morning in 1:43. He reeled off the quarter in :26, the half mile in :52 and the three-quarters in 1:17. The weights assigned by racing secretary and handicapper Webb Everett follows: Roman Soldier 126, Whopper 122, Azucar 118, Stand Pat 118, Sablin 112, Preeminent 107, Marynell 104, Sabula 100, Arson 100, Sir Jim James 100, Lady Fitz 100, Grand Rock 100, Sir Michael 98, Pokcaway 96, Holdum Brown 96. 4
