LANCASTER OPENING JULY 4 Thirteen-Day Meeting Scheduled for Ohio City Plant Well Equipped to Handle Crowds. LANCASTER, Ohio, June 24. Although thoroughbred racing was only introduced at the Fair Grounds here with a seven-day meeting last summer, the sport met with instant favor. As a result it has been decided to conduct a thirteen-day meeting here this season, commencing on July 4. With a brick and steel grandstand having a capacity of 7,500, the plant is well equipped to handle an exceptionally large crowd for a half-mile track. There were 30,000 persons on the grounds on Independence Day last year, and the average daily attendance was 4,000 daily. The stabling accommodations are sufficient to house 400 horses. It is planned to give seven races daily, with an extra race on Saturdays, the purses being of 00 and 00 value. A majority of the stables now taking part at the Northampton Park meeting at Akron, Ohio, have made application for reservations, including C. Sanborn, with Granbury, which is conceded to be the best horse now racing there. William Dangman, H. D. Shepard and C. Stands will serve as stewards during the meeting, and E. W. Stribling and H. J. Kohl will be two of the judges. H. J. Kohl will also serve as clerk of the scales, and William C. Daly will do the starting. There will be a general influx into Lancaster of the jockeys from Northampton Park next week. The track is easily accessible from Columbus, being only thirty miles southeast on state highway No. 31.
