MORITZ, forwardly placed from the start, gained a slight lead before reaching the stretch and, holding on stubbornly in the closing drive, lasted to hold PRIMER safe. The latter, prominent throughout, moved up on the outside and, despite fighting it out :n determined fashion, was unable to reach the winner. QUEEN VIC was a prominent factor the entire trip, but was unable to keep pace with the first two in the stretch drive. WAXWING, well placed early, was unable to reach the leaders when placed under punishment. PRINCE DANNY saved ground at the stretch turn and closed well. IRISH HERO, shuffled back at the start, closed some ground. PARITY was outpaced. OCONNELL, restrained for the first half mile, moved up stoutly approaching the stretch, wore down BLUE SPUR for the lead and drew clear in the final eighth. HOLDOUT was a forward factor throughout and held on willingly to the close. BLUE SPUR took command when called upon, only to falter in the closing drive. YANKEE PRINCE dropped back after reaching the back stretch and closed willingly in the last quarter mile, but was unable to reach the leaders. TERRY ON loomed up menacingly after going three-quarters, only to falter through the stretch run. ARTHUR METZ tired. ROYAL BROOM, restrained early, moved up stoutly when reaching the stretch, but was unable to reach the leader. CHERRY CAN saved ground at the stretch turn and finished with good courage. TELLWICK, on the outside and under pressure leaving the back stretch, finished with good courage. REGALITY was unable to threaten the leaders. SERGEANT AL was never a threat. HI-SUGAR forced the early pace and then .tired. AL CARLYS was outrun. LOVE POTION was blocked repeatedly and ducked behind horses in the stretch. RONFALON made repeated bids to reach the pacemaker and, while unable to make up any ground in the drive, held on stubbornly to the end. STEELHEAD trailed until leaving the back stretch, and closed with a belated rush. SANDWRACK was going willingly at the close. EVEN UP was. unable to make up any ground in the final drive.
