I EPSOM DOWNS TURF NOTES I $ The three-year-old Sir Gallahad III. Scarab filly, Galla, which was recenUy claimed from Mrs. E. McCuan by the Bedford Stock Farm Stable, was shipped to Bedford, Texas, where she will be bred to Osculator, according to Otto C. Rasch, Jr., trainer for the Texas outfit. Appealing, chief handicap reliance of the Motor City Stable, and Westy Junior, a promising looking performer, were sent to Arlington Downs on Monday by trainer H. C. Wolfe. The remainder of the Motor City Stables colorbearers will remain at Epsom Downs until the close of the current meeting. D. J. Sullivan III., prominent San Antonio thoroughbred patron, returned from a visit to his home over the week-end and will remain in Houston for the week. Because of an attack of colic suffered Monday morning while being breezed, B. Manziels Sergeant Hill was excused from fulfilling his engagement in the sixth race on the program. E. E. Major brought Owen Martinez, Miss Flip and Mary Carmen from Riverside Park and registered the trio with the racing secretary at Epsom Downs Monday morning. Major also brought word that another carload is due to arrive in Houston Tuesday. Frank Scrcmba, former jockey, who is training for various owners as well as his own horses, announced that he has retired the fleet sprinter of a few years ago, Zekiel, and will use the son of Zev as a stable pony in the future. Jockey Leland Lake, contract rider for the Three Ds Stock Farm, returned from. Fort Worth, Texas, where he spent the week-end. He plans to ride here until the ! opening of the session at Arlington Downs. Joe Barr, manager of the mutucl depart-; ; ment at Arlington Downs, was a visitor at Epsom Downs Saturday afternoon, returning to Dallas after the races. Barr is on i the scene early to assist in the installation of the totalizator at Arlington Downs. ; Mrs. Frank Reitman, wife of the general ! manager of Epsom Downs, is an arrival1 I from her home in New Jersey and will remain here for the rest of the meeting. An appeal has been made to the Texas State Racing Commission by the contract employers of jockey Raymond Hightshoe, regarding the "forfeiting" of his apprenticeship, due to having ridden his first winner! j at Kingsville, Texas, on OctQbei; 12, 1935. 1 ; i ; ! I j However, no word rescinding the ruling issued by Miss Elizabeth Thweatt, secretary of the commission on Saturday, hence he was without the five pounds allowance for Monday afternoons races. Jockey Jesse "Cotton" Johnson, who has been vacationing with relatives at his home in Tulsa, Okla., reported to T. B. Miller, trainer of the H. C. Rumagc string or racers at Epsom Downs, Monday morning. John-i son has been at home since the close of the Longacres meeting at Seattle. E. Paul Waggoner, part owner of the pretentious Three Ds Stock Farm Stable, notified trainer Dan Deering in a long distance telephone conversation that he was .sending the Three Ds van to Epsom Downs.! to transfer the stock to Arlington Downs this week. Shipment is contemplated for Wednesday night, according to Deering. Waggoner arrived at Arlington Downs Sunday from Lexington, Ky., where he supervised the shipment of some yearlings from the Blue Grass State. F. l. Talley, Lone Star State turfman, is confined to his apartment due to a severe cold but through his agent, Pat Garrity, completed arrangements for the shipment of his thoroughbreds to Arlington Downs Tucsdqy, ,. , x.. .., t ,r 4 ,,w
