COVETS ARLINGTON "STAKES Frank Gilpin, Seagram Trainer, Names Stand Pat, Sablin and Ros-selli for Waggoner Memorial. ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct 12. In a communication to racing secretary Charles J. McLennan, Frank Gilpin, noted Canadian trainer, who has, among others, the thoroughbreds belonging to E. F. Seagram, Canadian millionaire sportsman, in his care, appears to be making a determined effort to win the 5,000 Waggoner Memorial Handicap, feature stake of the 00,000 purse distribution by the Texas Jockey Club for its fall meeting of thirty-three racing days, starting October 22, for he nominated four of his charges for the race. Heading the list is the four-year-old stake winner, Stand Pat, and Gilpin declares the son of John P. Grier was never better. Sablin, four-year-old son of Display Flamante, and therefore a full brother to the fast yearling now in the Waggoner Three Ds barns at Arlington, was named, as was Rosseli, three-year-old son of Traumer Hussey, belonging to J. C. Palmer. Seagrams other candidate for the Waggoner Memorial is that grand chestnut, Tempestuous, by Sickle. Not only did Gilpin nominate for the Waggoner Memorial, which will be run off on November 14, over nine furlongs, but he also sent in to McLennan nominations for practically all of the stakes to be run off during the forthcoming meeting, with the exception, of course, of the Southwest. Breeders Futurity, restricted to Texas- and Oklahoma-bred youngsters. Gilpins thoroughbreds, which have been campaigning in Canada, will leave Toronto, on October 16 and come direct to Arlington, Accompanying the Gilpin string will be C. McTague, crack rider, and F. Mann, who will divide riding for the Canadian invaders.
