LEXINGTON SALES BEGIN Sixty-Seven Head Bring 1,850 for Average of ,221.64. Twenty-Four Mares From W. S. Kilmers Court Manor Stud Realize Total of 8,250. LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct 19. E. J. Tranters annual autumn sale of thoroughbred horses at Lexington sales paddock had an auspicious opening this morning. With Eugene "Doc" Bond crying the sale, sixty-seven head brought a total of 1,850, an average of ,221.64. Last year the first period at which breeding stock was sold, 111 head brought a total of 2,390, an average of 62.07 therefore, the average today shows that the market is up over 100 per cent The sale today opened with the dispersal of a draft of twenty-four mares from Willis Sharpe Kilmers Court Manor Stud at Newmarket, Va. They brought an aggregate of 8,250, average ,177.08. The highest price obtained for any in this consignment was ,500. Henry Knight, master of Alma-hurst Farm, bought HIghdine for that amount, and Thomas B. Cromwell, as agent for an eastern owner, bought Sun Tweed for the same amount Alex M. Robb, Mr. Kilmers representative, stated that he was well pleased with the result of the sale. The dispersal of the Archwood Manor Stud of the late Henry Teller Archibald, aggregated 3,125, for thirty head, an average of ,104.17. The highest price for any in this consignment was ,000 for Candy Queen, which was purchased by Calumet Farm. The latter also got Westys Queen for ,000. Thomas B. Cromwell, as agent for a Kentucky breeder, bought Dark Hero for ,000. To divide the partnership of Warm Stable, the stallions The Nut and Epithet, three mares and two weanlings were sold for a total of 6,600, an average of ,371.43. The top price was 0,100 paid by Coldstream Stud for the mare. My Tide, in foal to The Nut. Harry S. Hart bought The Nut for ,100 and Thomas Piatt bought Epithet for ,100. Thomas B.
