AETHELSTAN FOR MARYLAND Son of Teddy Acquired by Syndicate of Breeders to Stand at Holly Beach Farm. BALTIMORE, Md.. Oct 19. It has been learned from an authoritative source that a syndicate of six Maryland breeders, all members of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, have successfully terminated negotiations for the purchase of Aethelstan, a fourteen-year-old son of Teddy and Dedicace, by Val Suzon. Aethelstan was bred by Capt Jefferson Davis Cohn, for whom he raced during his entire career with marked success, winning over all distances and, many times, under heavy imposts. At the time of his retirement Aethelstans sire, Teddy, was basking in the limelight of favor and it was not until after the exportation of that noted horse to the United States that the son came into his own. Two stakes winners graced his first crop, Deiri and Ivan the Terrible. Last year he was represented by Louqsor, which captured the Prix du President de la Republique, at one and one-half miles and 110 yards. Louqsor won over the mile and a quarter course as a two-year-old. Aethelstan is at the top of the list of sires in his native country today, his son Fantastic having won the Grand Prix de Deauville, the French St. Leger, and five of his last six starts, all of which were good stakes. His stakes winners this year are Bel Aethel, Patchon, Ardrossan, Aethel Pride, El Sabaa, Aindrissa, Aethelavar, Quick Aethel, Midget II. and Aethelflaed. Bel Aethel was recently sold for 0,000. Aethelstan is ineligible to the English Stud Book as he is descended from Heel and Toe, a daughter of La Polka, by Lexington. It is the intention to stand this good son of Teddy at Labrot and Companys Holly Beach Farm, hear Annapolis, Md. Kantar, another French I stallion, by Alcantara II., is also serving at Holly Beach. This will make the fourth son of Teddy to stand in this country. Sir Gallahad III. is at A. B. Hancocks Claiborne Stud; Quatre Bras II., at Phil T. Chinns Old Hickory Farm, and King Bruce, which is located in Ohio. These horses were all foaled in France. Aethelstan was the property of Mr. Pierre Champion, and stood at the Haras du Manoir de Chemoitou, Alencon Orne, France. His fee in that -country was 6,000 francs, about 00.
