AMQUI took command at once, withstood determined early opposition from DE VALERA, shook him off and drew into a comfortable lead, never to be threatened, though ridden out sharply at the end. HOOSIERS PRIDE was unable to keep up early, moved up steadily on the outside in the last five-sixteenths and got. up in the closing stride to take the place. DOUGLAS F. was prominent all the way and only surrendered the place in the last stride. APATHY was unable to keep up early, then closed a big gap in the last quarter mile. DE VALERA raced well for three-eighths. CANCEL was unable to make up any ground at any stage of the trip. TRAMWAY was slow to begin, moved up fast on the outside nearing the far turn, fought his way clear to gain a slight lead, impeded GRANNYS TRADE and had TRANSIT LADY in close quarters near the end. He was disqualified for fouling. TRANSIT LADY was hard ridden to keep up early, moved through on the inside at the stretch turn and held on stubbornly to the close, though unable, to obtain ample racing room at the end. PLAYMORE was far back early and closed with a rush. GRANNYS TRADE was prominent from the beginning, suffered some interference and had to take up when bothered by TRAMWAY. CHOICE GOODS was" in the first flight, but was unable to keep pace in the last quarter mile. LADY THIRTEEN faltered after goine well for a half mile. PENRILL, restrained early, moved up on the inside entering the stretch, but was unable to make up any ground when placed under punishment. ANHELATION was well placed throughout, but was unable to keep pace in the drive. SWEEPERMAN was in closest pursuit of the pace, made" a determined bid nearing the stretch, but was not good enough. ONWARD, on the inside through the last sixteenth, tired after having gained command and hejd on well, but was no match for the winner. THATCH closed stoutly in the stretch run. GAY CREST xvas restrained early, and finished well in the stretch run. GLITTER GLOW faltered badly after surrendering the command to ONWARD. CHIEF MOURNER was never prominent.
