Midkiff, "president, and Neville Dunn, secretary, of the Thoroughbred Club of America, today made an appointment with E. J. Tranter, president of the Fasig-Tipton Company, to meet him in his office in New York next Monday. The appointment was made following a meeting of a group of Kentuckians at the Phoenix Hotel who are interested in the production of thoroughbreds at which was discussed the creation of a company for the purpose of buying the Lexington sales pad-j dock from Tranter and eventually selling all yearlings produced in Kentucky at Lexing- ton. Midkiff presided at the meeting, Dunn act-j ing as secretary, but it was stated at the outset that it is not a Thoroughbred Club activity and that all members of the Thoroughbred Club had not been invited. Tbe idea appears to be to get a price from Tranter and then ask for subscriptions from breeders of horses to a stock company to own and operate the business. During the winter another group of Kentuckians, with Roy Carruthers as its spokesman, asked Tranter for a price on his Ken-j tucky plant and also his Saratoga plant. When he was here in April he had a meeting with Carruthers, at which time he told him he would sell both plants and the entire business, but he would expect the buyers to pay a price which would be sufficient to take care of the government tax in addition to a :fair value for the property and business, Carruthers thought Tranters position well taken, but he could not see any profit for his group at such a figure and the matter was dropped. The present movement appears to have originated with Neville Dunn, who is sports editor of the Lexington Herald, but it does not appear that it has the backing of the larger consignors to the sales at Saratoga and Lexington,
