FOUR SPOT IN FINE RACE Takes Agawam Main Eace in Close Finish Favorite Players Fare Poorly. AGAWAM, Mass., June 23. On a program that was marked by many reverses and before the largest mid-week attendance of the present meeeting, Mrs. F. Espositos veteran gelding Four Spot, making his second start of the year, was winner of the Paper-makers Purse, a contest under allowance conditions that served as the principal attraction at Agawam Park today. Meeting a group of the best sprinters on the grounds and a despised factor for the race that saw Upside Down ruling favorite in the speculation, the Esposito gelding staged a sensational rush to accomplish his purpose in one of the best finishes of the day. His triumph that was the first of the present season came in a picture finish and it took place at the expense of San Marino, one of a pair that raced in the silks of Phillip Schwartz when they reached the judges stand, separated by inches and just a length befora the popular choice, Upside Down, which has been a consistent failure in all of his New England starts. The result of the contest was more than bitter for the talent, who installed Upside Down the choice, as they took a severe lacing beginning with the downfall of Als Pride in the first race, fol-. lowed by Working Girl, Capt. Jerry, Waugh Pop and Stickemup.
