0,000 RACE FIELD ON HAND Probable Frontier Handicap Starters Now at Detroit Course. War Minstrel Arrives and Completes List of Probable Contestants in Rich Event Scheduled for Saturday. DETROIT, Mich., June 23. With the arrival of Mrs. Emil Denemarks War Minstrel -from Chicago this morning, the probable starting field for Saturdays 0,000 added Frontier Handicap is on the grounds. Trainers Frank Kerns and J. J. Flanagan decided against sending Count Morse and Sir Emerson here, as track conditions prevented them from preparing their charges for such a hard race as the Frontier, at one mile and three-sixteenths. War Minstrel is one of the light weights of the field, but he has been going great guns at Washington Park and gives promise of being all that was expected of his dam, War Feathers. The Man o War mare brought 5,000 at the Saratoga auctions, but she had a hard time in winning a race, and it was over a cheap band at Latonia. War Minstrel did not graduate from the maiden ranks until several weeks ago, but since then he has been stepped up in class, until now he is considered one of the leading three-year-olds of Chicago racing. EARLY HISTORY OF RACE. His arrival means that three-year-olds will be in there ready to give their older opponents a hard tussle. The Frontier originally was a race for three-year-olds, and its first four runnings was at the old Highland Park race track, about three miles from the Fair Grounds, and the site of the old Ford motor plant. The race was run over that course until 1906, when George M. Hendrie moved it to the old Windsor Jockey Club, and it then was opened to three-year-olds and over. Excepting the 1929 and last renewal, which was run at Devonshire, the Frontier was run over the Windsor course. Naturally after his brilliant third to Whopper and Tempestuous, Carl S. will make a try for the rich pot, and he had his final j preparation this morning. Siam, another ; three-year-old, also went through his final drill, and it appears that as many as four of this age will be under colors. Siam, War Minstrel and Grey Gold will carry ninety-eight pounds each, and Carl S. is the feather with ninety-five. With Charley Hanauer in the saddle Carl S. breezed nine furlongs in 1:57. He was under a strong hold as he covered the quarter in :25, half mile in :50, three-quarters in 1:17, and a mile in 1:43. Siam was sent the same distance, and the Pontchartrain Stakes winner was breezing at the end in 2:02. He was. timed the quarter in :27, half mile in :54, three-quarters in 1:21, and the mile in 1:48. WAR EMBLEMS FAST MILE. War Emblem, which will be a companion of War Minstrel, stepped a mile in 1:41. He was under a mild hand ride at the end. His fractions were :25, :49 and 1:15. Millsdale. Stables Infantry ran nine furlongs in 1:55, .handily. He covered the quarter in :25, half mile in :50, three-quarters in 1:16, and the mile in 1:42. F. M. Alger, Jr.s Polar Flight breezed three-quarters in 1:19, and Corinto, Sir Jim James, Gyral and Stocks had openers for long preparations tomorrow. . . Corinto breezed three-eighths in :37, Sir Jim James went the same distance in :38, Gyral a half mile in :52, and Stocks went five-eighths in 1:06. Whopper and Azucar worked a mile each yesterday, and they will require little more I before the big race. . .
