Carrying top weight of 113 pounds made the performance of the filly all the more impressive, as she was conceding many pounds to her rivals and proved capable of out-sprinting them throughout. Before the field had traveled very far, the locally-owned racer assumed a lead of three lengths over Double B. and Kentucky Blues, and the general opinion was that Dora May would tire under the impost and the fast pace she was setting. HOLDS ON WITH TENACITY. However, Dora May held on with tenacity when Double B., which had been racing under light restraint for half a mile, made his charge down the stretch. Double B. gradually whittled away the margin separating him from the front, but was unequal to the tapk of overtaking Dora May. The triumph was Dora Mays second in five times out here and she ruled a pronounced favorite, returning a dividend of i20 for . Five of the eight races were given over to sprinters and productive of some interesting sport and one of the largest week-day gatherings of the current season was in attendance, despite the fact that there was a threat of rain throughout the afternoon. However, the daughter of Jock Jeano was j extended to the limit in order to lead I Chase across the finish line by a half length, with i third place falling to Black Noah. j GAINS NOSE DECISION. A rank outsider in the betting upset the calculations in the second, when Mrs. A. L. Taylors Light Rolls gained a nose decision over Bindy and Wise Princess, the latter two attracting the most support in the field of twelve two-year-old fillies that matched strides at five furlongs. R. L. Davis three-year-old Davishill grad-J uated from the maiden ranks in the third event of the. day, a six furlongs dash for i thr.ee.-year-olds that held a capacity field of j contestants. It was a comparatively easy score .for- the son of Galus Copper Kit as: he led throughout to register by the comfortable margin of three lengths over Kittys Rival, while Jack Greenock closed with a rush to be third. The Live Oak Stables speedy brown colt Ball-O-Fire made it two straight victories in as many attempts as he accounted for the I major portion of the purse in the Ghent Claiming Purse, a five furlongs affair which was fourth on the card. Kitty Baker f in-j ished second, half a length in the wake of the winner, while third money went to Fair. The first of the. distance races for the., afternoon engaged a field of six platers oyer . the mile and a quarter route, and the Locust Ridge Farms Stepahead proved best. Taking command when straightened away in the stretch, Stepahead romped to a three lengths score over Reelaway, with Sam Alexander two lengths farther back in third place. Reelaway set the pace for nine furlongs, but was easy prey for the stretch challenge of Stepahead.
