I I 1 I TANF0RAN TURF NOTES f : s One of the most pleased men on the grounds Monday morning was trainer T. X. Grimes because the brilliant performer Today showed so much improvement over his condition Saturday, which occasioned his withdrawal from the Worlds Fair Handicap. The sturdy son of Whichone and Afternoon has always had a chronic ailment in his foot, and it appeared as if this infirmity had returned when he was being readied to fill his engagement in the closing day feature. Grimes was so much concerned about the manner in which the horse walked, he would take no chances of breaking him down so decided to scratch him. The horse is so much improved it is probable he will indulge in his regular routine of training. Trainer T. E. Crist has severed his connection with the establishment of Kozinsky Bros, and plans to open a public stable. The Kozinsky horses were turned over to trainer E. H. Beezley, who will direct their conditioning for future engagements. With the addition of his new charges the string under the care of Beezley comprises fifteen head. The extensive string of Mrs. J. F. Waters headed the exodus of horses which were transferred from Bay Meadows to Tan-f j I oran Sunday. Trainer Euall Wyatt brought seventeen head of the Waters Stable, which joined the five Argentine-bred horses which Mr. H. A. Luro brought over for the San 1 Francisco sportswoman last summer. 1 Before sending his horses to Tanforan, ! George Adams arranged for the transfer of I i Leonie and Mastiff to Pleasanton, where they will run out in pasture for several weeks. Jockey Ralph Neves, who has been inactive for several weeks, will resume his riding activities at Tanforan, having several engagements to till. j George Schilling, who will serve as presid-, ing steward at Agua Caliente, also took off 1 for southern California, where he will confer with general manager Lou Anger. Andy Hole, conditioner of the J. H. Meehan horses, checked in with Campillo, Gilbert! Elston and Chatmoss. The trio have beenj inactive for several weeks, but are now ready to resume racing. Apprentice Jack Robertson, who suffered a bad fall early in the Bay Meadows meeting, was discharged from the Mills Memorial Hospital Monday. He will not be able to ride for several weeks. The Binglin Stable has announced that the good South American Comet II. will be trained to a mile. Comet II. is unbeaten in this country, having won three races. The stable has also made known the purchase of another Argentine horse named Profundo. The latter is a three-year-old and will be ! shipped from Buenos Aires this week. R. Webster has- been appointed trainer of the five-year-old Barrctte which races in the interest of Mrs. C. A. Davis. j j The three horses trainer H. McLeod brought here from Chicago have fully recov- J ; ered from the attack of coughing which kept j j them out of competition during the Bayj j Meadows meeting and will be under colors in the near future. The trio consists of Bat-1 I tling Girl and Master Mort, which race fori H. Baruch, while Accordion represents1 McLeod. I J Trainer John Kennedy has taken over , Carbar and Katys Favorite to condition for J. P. Hayes. 1 When the aged Beeson was claimed Sat- i ! I ! j j J ; j j j I I J , 1 urday at Bay Meadows it marked the returning to his former owner, H. Walters. The son of Hourless was a consistent winner for Walters. H. A. Luro, prominent owner and breeder of Argentina, will have but one representative at Tanforan in the horse Vino Puro, which will be trained by E. Wyatt. Torch Singer, which former trainer Charles Gross brought to this region from Kentucky, has recovered from the injury she sustained at Bay Meadows and will be under colors soon. Webb Everett, well-known racing official, came down for the opening at Tanforan and will return to his home in Arcadia Tuesday night. Everett will commence his work of handicapping the entrants for the impending Santa Anita Handicap. F. E. Childs, who will ship his horses to Agua Caliente this week, will take six head to the border course for Mrs. E. H. Beezley. Trainer Hurst Philpot, who had a half interest in the colt Hot Spur, has sold his share to Eddie Janss. Grayson Philpot main-1 tained his half interest in the son of Flying Ebony and Playtax.
