Crescent City Annually Develops Star Apprentice Rider Track Will Open Thanksgiving Day. NEW ORLEANS, La., Nov. 15. Preparations for the coming meeting at the Fair Grounds which- begins Thanksgiving Day are going right along and general manager Robert S. Eddy, Jr., announced today all arrangements had been made for a gala opening. Workmen have been putting the finishing touches on the plant and by the end of the week all necessary repairs will have been made. Every year one or more topnotch apprentice riders have been developed here and this year should find a merry battle between the young riders for top honors. Among some of the clever apprentices to don silks at the local plant are R. Nash, P. McLean, J. Bowen, E. Dew, C. Charlton, O. Scurlock, J. E. Oros, J. Molbert and C. Carl-l berg. From the above group alone owners will not have any difficulty in selecting a capable apprentice to steer their charges. In addition to the above there will be more than 100 others to apply for licenses to ride here. Among some of the jockeys and apprentices already galloping horses here are C. Mojena, H. West, A. Richard, E. Burns, H. LeBlanc, J. Marrero, J. Butler, J. Bomar, J. Brennan, H. Hauer, E. Franklin, T. P. Martin, D. Dubois, J. Carter, D. Manifold, E. Sylvia, E. K. Sylvia, D. Scurlock, K. Grecver, R. Finnerty, J. Chestnut, E. Pool, J. Cowley, J. Hernandez, E. Rodriguez, W. McCadden, M. Knight, D. Knight, J. Caniglia, R. Conley D. Castille, and J. Gardelle. LARGE SHIPMENTS EXPECTED. After making plans to take care of twelve carloads of horses coming from Narragan-: sett, racing secretary Leigh announced this morning that the large stable in charge of jE. E. Russell, consisting of nineteen head, would not be here. Russell changed his Continued on twenty-seventh page. PLANNING GALA INAUGURAL iCuntinued from first page. plans and decided to ship elsewhere. With this cancellation Leigh can take care of horsemen who shipped here and were not able to get stabling accommodations. The 1700 stalls at the Fair Grounds have been reserved and horsemen who have not been notified by Leigh that accommodations could be had, are requested to not ship here. The extension of the Narragansett meeting will keep some of the horsemen at the Eastern track, however, many have notified Leigh that they would arrive during the week. The last of the Kentucky shipments coming will be the large stable of Frank P. Letellier, who will have nearly two cars to come from Louisville. As is the custom, Letellier, who lives here, will have about ten yearlings to compete at the local track. The Letellier horses are leaving the" Falls City Tuesday, while the last of the horses coming from Kentucky will be ten head C. Smith will ship next week from Louisville. Late arrivals who are not fortunate enough to secure stabling room outside the grounds, will be forced to move their stock to Jefferson Park, which can accommodate little more than one hundred.
