BROWNS CONDITION FAIR Volunteers Come Forward to Take Place of 111 Starter Bob Frend Helps Out His Friend. SHREVEPORT, La., Nov. 15. The condition of Tom J. Brown, starter at the local Fair Grounds track, who is in the Tri-State Hospital, suffering from several ailments, was reported fair this morning. Brown was removed to the hospital Saturday night having been ill for more than a week, although he stuck to his position at the track through Saturdays program. Several capable of doing the work volunteered to take over Browns duties at the . track without remuneration, and Bob Frend, who came over from his home in Texas last week for a visit of a few days, finally was selected. Frend refused to accept a salary for doing the starting here the remainder of the week, insisting that the money be paid to Brown. Among other volunteers for the job was Walter Richey, who is serving here as patrol judge. I I
