SPOT 00,000 CANDIDATES Thirty Or More Likely Eligibles Now on the Coast. Prospects Indicate Number of Nominations May Equal Those of Last Race-Check Possibilities. ARCADIA, Calif., Nov. 15. Thirty or more likely candidates to be named for the 00,-000 added Santa Anita Handicap before the nominations close on December 1, can be spotted among the comparatively small colony of 200 early arrivals for the fifth winter season, which opens December 31. With the big shipments of leading stables coming from Narragansett, Maryland and Tanforan, the prospects of the record ninety-three nominees for the big race last year may be equalled. The reservations also contain an increased number of coming three-year-olds, which should also swell the 0,000 added Santa Anita Derby list, which also closes on December 1. The check of those now at Santa Anita which will likely be made eligible, brings to light John Hay Whitneys Flying Scot; Louis B. Mayers Magic Hour, Brooklyn, Ossabaw, Perifox and Joy Boy; Mrs. Emil Denemarks War Minstrel, Corinto and Orientalist; Le Mar Stock Farms Mar Le, Mad Money and Millie M.; Major Austin C. Taylors Indian Broom and Whichcee; A. A. Baronis Specify, No Dice and Touch and Go; Nelson A. Howards Gosum; Joe E. Browns Gascabelito; Mrs. G. H. Emicks Dunnamany and Unselfish; W. E. Boeings Porters Mite, Grim Peaper, Piccolo and Galsun; Arnold Hangers He Did; John Cromwells Valley Lass, and Raoul Walshs French horse, Courtil. MAY REVISE LAST. The list may be revised by December 1 as the trainers go along with the preliminary training. Trainer Lonnie Copenhaver has a couple of problems with the consignment of the Louis B. Mayer headliners who are on the ground. He has blistered Perifoxs shoulder; is treating the California two-year-old, Joy Boy, for a bruised foot, and is putting Ossabaw through his paces on the flat. It is a cinch that Main Man, Routine and some of the other Mayer gallopers up north will be named. There is a question if W. E. Boeing will put his Belmont Futurity winner, Porters Mite, in the handicap at one and one-quarter miles as well as the Derby at one and one-eighth miles. But there seems to be a feeling that many of the current two-year-olds will be made eligible for both of the rich stakes, as there is a stretch of ten days February 22 to March 4 in between. W. E. Boeings Porters Mite, Manhassett Stables Roman Hero, Louis B. Mayers Joy Boy and Sweet Patrice, a filly; John Cromwells Valley Lass, another filly; A. A. Baronis Touch and Go, and perhaps a half dozen others which have more imposing records than Stagehand sported at this time last season. Counting the probable two-year-old candidates, there are more than thirty prospective nominees for the Santa Anita Handicap among about 200 early arrivals quarted at Santa Anita Park.
