W. A. MIKELS YEARLING BAND Smallest Crop in Years Now Being Prepared at Fair Grounds for Juvenile Races. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 1. Although W. A. Mikel, Carlock, 111., breeder and turfman, has his smallest crop of yearlings this year, three the progeny of Khamseen, the gray sprinter which he campaigned with much success during the past few years, the youngters are well thought of by their owner. The complete list of youngsters in the Mikel collection totals six, five of which are in quarters with fourteen older horses at Jefferson Park and will be prepared for racing next year in the Crescent City. The trio sired by Khamseen are Nellie Francis, a chestnut filly from Flamarno; Jay D. Seen, a chestnut gelding from Belle H., and Daisy Seen, a gray filly from March Bane. The remaining trio are sired by Brae-dalbane and bear the monikers of Maud Bane, a chestnut filly from Carlock Girl; Elmira Bane, a brown filly from La Belotte, and a chestnut filly from Miss Baldwin for which the name Grace Bane was rejected by the registrar of The Jockey Club. Due to an injury sustained while romping at "the farm Elmira Bane was not included in the shipment of yearlings south for the winter racing season but will be taken up in the spring and placed in training. In past seasons the Mikel string was among the largest of home-breds to be raced at the Louisiana Jockey Clubs track. The present crop of yearlings is the first to be produced by Khamseen, and if looks count for anything, the "babies" should play an important part in the juvenile ranks in this section in 1939.
