1 CHARLES TOWN TURF NOTES s and Glen McNaughton, who holds reservations here for his horses, informed officials that he has postponed their departure for a few days owing to the unsafe condition of several roads. Shipment will be made as soon as the roads thaw and become safe. Manny Berg, who rides on the smaller tracks of West Virginia and Maryland each season, was the proud father of a baby boy weighting nine pounds who arrived in the world to Mrs. Berg in Baltimore early; Thursday morning. P. B. Codd, who is shipping a large string of horses to Florida to race at Tropical and Hialeah Park, has- granted permission to jockey D. Militello to ply his trade during the local meeting. The suspension invoked on jockey Beverly Hacker on the closing day of the Maryland Jockey Club at Pimlico ended November 29 and the lad, who is in New Orleans with his contract employer H. Hoffman, is expected to don silks immediately. Jockey L. Garrett, who has been vacationing since the close of the meeting at Wheeling Downs, arrived from Nashville, Tenn., and will be active in the saddle for the balance of the meeting. W. G. Jackson, who rode with success at different tracks throughout the summer months, will do the riding for the Bristol Stable, which is quartered on the grounds here. Arthur Hullcoat, who has raced his string here each year, brought his horses from Narragansett Park. Apprentice J. Peck is under the wing of the Maryland owner. Jockey W. Dufford, brother of Hugh Duf-ford, who trains for Alvin Untermyer, was seen in the saddle on opening day at Charles Town.
