MISS BALKO, well up and in hand for a half mile, saved ground, came to the outside of ROYAL BROOM in the drive and, after wearing her down, just lasted for a dead heat with PRINCE FELLOW. The latter, had good speed from the beginning, was put to pressure after reaching the stretch and, closing resolutely, was up in the last stride to finish on even terms with MISS BALKO. ROYAL BROOM made the pace without need of pressure, held on well to the last eighth and then tired. VALDINA, uifder light restraint for three-eighths, saved ground and closed strongly. WILLOW WAND faltered after a half mile. MISS FIREFLY, " slow to begin, failed to rally when called upon. Scratched 69137 Social Error, 106. Overweight Miss Firefly, 1 pound; Migal Fay, 2. HONEY SEAT, away fast and having good speed, made the pace under steady restraint to the final three-sixteenths, drew away gradually when placed to mild pressure and probably had something in reserve. PEGGY BYRD, raced wide throughout and a strong factor from the start, was under strong urging after reaching the final quarter, then held on with determination to outstay MY SHADOW. The latter worked her way up gradually and hung on stubbornly in the drive. CARRIE K. raced prominently from the start and saved ground throughout, but did not keep up in the last quarter. MINNIE POT showed a fair effort from a slow beginning. KINDLY ACT, rank at the post, began well, but tired in the stretch. DOODAD began very slowly. DOUG BRASHEAR, a sharp factor from the beginning, was under occasional pressure to hold his position, responded to strong urging in the drive and was up in the last sixteenth. KATHERINE G. made the pace under light restraint, responded to pressure in the last eighth, was bumped an eighth out by LAST HOP and held on well, but could not stick it out. THE THRUSH began to improve his position on the outside after three-eighths and closed fast. LAST HOP forced the pace without need of strong urging, bore over on KATHERINE G. when forging to the front an eighth out and then tired. SISTER POLLY raced evenly. APROPOS was fractious at the post and had no mishaps. JUSTIFICATION tired. MEXICO CITY was outrun. ABBOTS HOUR, well up from the beginning and strongly restrained for five-eighths, took command with a rush thereafter and held his advantage to the end without having to be strongly handled. CHEROKEE RED, a sharp factor from the beginning, responded to pressure after three-quarters, but could not got to the winner. U DEMON, well up from the beginning and in hand for five-eighths, was forced back sharply when placed in close quarters on the second turn and closed boldly when clear. ALAN CHICLE, never far back, was put to good pressure after three-quarters and closed well. ESCOLEE, bumped at the start and outrun for five-eighths, began to improve her position thereafter, then finished stoutly. BIG GAY had no mishaps. EDDIE GARDNER tired. COSSACK GIRL quit. PANDONNA, away fast and showing good speed throughout, shook off repeated challenges during the first five-eighths, continued gamely under strong urging and, although bearing out, held WAXWING safe in the drive. The latter, hard hustled from the start, showed good speed while setting the early pace, saved ground and held on well under pressure. LISTARO raced well up for the entire trip, then got through on the inside in the stretch and was gaining steadily in the late stages. POLLY HASTINGS dropped back after a quarter, was taken to the outside thereafter and made up ground steadily in the last quarter. LITTLE DRIFT began slowly and improved position gradually under strenuous urging. LEGAL ADVICE lacked early speed. PROSY could not keep up and was always far back. ROUGH DIAMOND, taken in hand early and kept on the outside, was roused in the last three-eighths, responded readily and wore down MASTERPIECE in the last sixteenth to draw clear. MASTERPIECE forced the pace while under snug restraint for three-quarters, disposed of LEGERDEMAIN when straightened out in the stretch, but was unable to withstand the challenge of the winner. GAY MAY improved her position while on the inside, began bearing out in the final quarter, continued gamely and held the others safe. DECOURCY made up some ground in the last three-eighths. CASINGHEAD was in close quarters and taken back on the first turn, worked his way up steadily on the inside when clear, but tired in the last quarter. FREEZE had good speed for three-quarters, held on well to the last eighth and then tired. JANE W. bore out badly on the second turn. MISS COLLINS quit after five-eighths.
