HELD ON ESPIONAGE CHARGE LOS ANGELES, Calif., Dec. 1. Believed to be a member of a well-organized espionage ring, Karl Allen Drummon, 21-year-old aviation worker, was under arrest today charged in a federal indictment with attempting to sell important military secrets to Japan. Federal agents asserted the case eventually will involve a number of other persons. The youth, an employe of the Northrup division of Douglas Aircraft Corporation, was accused specifically of attempting to sell for 2,000 photographs of United States army and navy airplanes in various stages of construction and documents dealing with the construction of aircraft embodying closely guarded secrets of design. After having been under surveillance for several months he was secretly indicted yesterday and arrested at his Inglewood home. Last May, it was alleged, Drummond obtained a job at the Douglas plant and managed to steal photographs, documents and information. Intervention of federal agents came before any transactions were complete, it was reported.
