I 3 J ; 1 . ; C. CHARLTON BUDDING STAR Ninety-Pound Idaho Youngster Advancing Rapidly to Front As Promising Saddle Prospect. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 7. Many classy reinsmen have come from the state of Idaho, and there appears to be another budding star on the horizon in Charles "Chuck" Charlton, 17-year-old sorrel-topped lad from the hamlet of Homedale, who is pacing the riders at the Fair Grounds at the completion of the first nine days of racing. Graduating from the ranks of non-winners on September 23 when he piloted Mrs. Edward Haughtons Texas Rose to victory at Latonia, the ninety-pound youngster has come to the fore with leaps and bounds. Guiding home three winners in a single day during the past week and gaining the distinction of being the first rider to accomplish the feat during the current season, and coming back the following day with a double set, Charlton forged into the lead and is attracting the attention of owners and trainers with his skill in the saddle. The freckled Idahoan has a total of eight winners to his credit, one of which was gained through a dead heat, six seconds and two thirds, which gives him a substantial lead over Sammy Williams, third ranking rider of the nation, and Earl Dew, who is out with a broken leg. The first nine jockeys on the Fair Grounds list in the matter of victories scored are apprentices, with only three seasoned riders being included among the first ten. The duel for leading training honors is a closely contested affair, as the saddling of winners thus far has been widely distributed for the first nine days of the season.
