CUBS IN BIG DEAL NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 7 The first major happening of the minor league convention, in session here, occurred late yesterday, when "Gabby" Hartnett and Bill Terry engaged in one of the largest deals in recent years. Holding good his promise, following the Cubs defeat by the Yankees in the world series, that, with few exceptions, almost every man on the club would be subject to trading, Hartnett parted with Shortstop Bill Jurges, Outfielder Frank Demaree and Catcher Ken ODea in exchange for Shortstop Dick Bartell, Outfielder "Hank" Lieber and Catche- Gus Mancuso. Hartnett was particularly pleased at being able to acquire Lieber.
