GREGORY STARTS OFF FAST N7W ORLEANS, La., Dec. 7. J. R. "Red" Gregory, who experienced considerable difficulty having his charges get down in front a year ago at the Fair Grounds, has started off with quite a bang this season. It shapes up as if Gregory is in for his most successful season in the Crescent City in many years. Cracking down with Dead Calm the first time out, Gregory has also scored with Petard, Lostagal and Pomplit, which incidentally gives him the lead over his rivals for the training honors, as his nearest competitor has a total of three winners to their credit. Gregory has annexed a purse with every horse that he has saddled at the Louisiana Jockey Club track to date, three of the victors being first-time outers for the cagey turfman.
