FAMOUS NAME AMONG RIDERS NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 7. The name LaFitte has been a legend of Louisiana virtually since the French colonization of the state, Jean and Pierre LaFitte being bold buccaneers who went down in history for their assistance to Andrew Jackson in turning back the British in the War of 1812. Now a descendant of the LaFittes has appeared on the sports horizon in Stanley LaFitte, a native of New Orleans, who is seeking fame and fortune in the saddle. The 103-pound youngster claims to be a distant! relative of the pirates of yore and recently j made his first appearance in the saddle in 1 his native heath. Young LaFitte is under contract to L. L. Lycan and rode the first winner of his career early last month at Narragansett when he drove his employers Sun Way to a dead heat with Jerdan. Thus far Sun Ways score is the only victory contributed to LaFitte, but the youngster gives promise of developing into a first-class booter. Stanley LaFitte will do the bulk of the riding for the Lycan-trained horses during the remainder of the winter racing season in.; New Orleans.
