I CHALLEDON GALLOPS ONE I MILE AT HAVRE IN 1:44 3-5 i. - - - - HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 18. In a public trial preceding the first race at Havre de Grace on Tuesday, W. L. Branns Chal-ledon, one of the leading contenders for the Kentucky Derby advanced in his training for the Blue Grass special and the Chesapeake Stakes when he worked one mile in 1:44. Breaking from in front of the stand with Challephen, an older member of the stable which went with the three-year-old for half of the journey Challedon in his useful trial had a lot in reserve as he completed the eight furlongs. The early fractions were :13, :25, :37, :49, 1:02, 1:16, 1:30. Trainer L. J. Schaefer and a large gathering of horsemen watched the work from the judges stand and all were impressed by the smart move that was accomplished over a muddy racing strip.
