1 PIMLIC0 TURF NOTES T $ — $ R. S. Archer brought nine members of his stable to Pimlico over the week-end. The shipment came from Havre de Grace. Apprentice R. Bateman was notified to report to trainer Frank Gilpin of the Park-, wood Stable, owned by R. S. McLaughlin and he departed after the final race Monday for Toronto. Trainer K. Osborne is in charge of the H. P. Hadley horses that were shipped here from Keeneland Park. Warren Yarberry, contract rider for J. E. Widener, left for Kentucky. He will return to Pimlico in time to ride Shandon Farms good Dixiana Farm candidate, Burning Star, on "Wednesday, May 10. Conditions for the Charles Town Jockey Club meeting starting May 15, were distributed to horsemen Monday morning by Greg Johnson. Starter James Milton carried over fifteen horses on his schooling list from the session which closed at Havre de Grace Saturday. F. A. Smith, contract rider for E. R. Bradley, was an arrival from Keeneland. Smith, who was injured at Hialeah Park last winter, will swing into action Tuesday. Jockey George Seabo, will accept mounts until the conclusion of Wednesdays program when he will leave for Louisville. Seabo will have the mount on Marylands Preakness-Derby hopeful, Challedon, owned by W. L. Brann. Hal Price Headley arrived with twelve horses from Kentucky including the good sprinter, Preeminent, winner of two stakes events over this course last spring. The ten thoroughbreds which have been racing in Maryland this spring were shipped to New York under the care of Duval Headley, nephew of the owner. Charles J. McLennan has received copies of the Suffolk Downs condition books for the meeting starting May 15 and they are available to horsemen. Jockey Glen Smith who rode Chief Onaway in the Wood Memorial at Jamaica Saturday returned here. The standing of jockeys for the Maryland turf writers watch award reveals that jockey C. Stevenson with 20 winners is at the head of the list, jockey J. Oros is second with 19, and V. Pplk third with 17. Joe Stevens of the H. M. Stevens, Inc., caterers at Pimlico and other leading tracks, arrived from New York to supervise the placing of concessions for the opening here. The horses Solar Flight and Jolly Tar, of the W. M. Jeffords stable, are being shipped here from Jamaica to fill coming engagements. Webb Everett, racing secretary of the Hollywood Turf Club and John Mackenzie, general manager, were visitors at Pimlico for the opening on Monday. They will remain for Tuesdays racing, then will depart for Jamaica. After two days at the Metropolitan Jockey Club grounds they will leave J for Louisville to attend the Kentucky Derby.
