INGLEWOOD, Calif., May 1.— With little more than a month remaining before the opening, May 30, of Hollywood Parks second summer turf meeting, activity around the ,800,000 race plant has been stepped into high gear. i Already hundreds of workmen are engaged in whipping the huge plant into shape so that everything will be ready for the forty-three-day session which will see the nations outstanding thoroughbred stars battle for rich stakes. i General manager J. F. Mackenzie and his staff are checking over the countless details customarily attendant with the opening of a major turf meeting and supervising the more than a quarter of a million dollars in improvements spent on Hollywood Park this year. , Thoroughbred talent of the highest order has already been consigned for the summer racing season. Many prominent eastern stables, as well as all the best western-owned outfits, will vie for the more than 00,000 in stakes and purses during the meeting. Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Milky Way Farm, Herbert M. Woolfs Woolford Farm, Leo J. Marks Le Mar Stock Farm, J. H "Jock" Whitney, B. P. Woodson and many other stables from east of the Rockies will campaign here. PROMINENT WESTERN TURFMEN. Prominent western turfmen who will be represented with stables at Hollywood Park include C. S. Howard, Maj. Austin C. Taylor, Neil S. McCarthy, A. A. Baroni, Louis B. Mayer, Raoul Walsh, Norman W. Church, Harry M. Warner, Lin Howard, Bing Crosby, Edward S. Moore, Walter H. Hoffman and many others. Such scintillating equine stars as Kayak II., Whichcee, Specify, Today, Leading Article, Main Man, High Lark, Galapas, Roman Hero, Technician, Inscoelda, Dogaway, Speed to Spare, Ligaroti, Don Mike, Olimpo, Prof undo, First Kiss and Sweet Nancy will be pointed for the nineteen stakes to be settled during the meeting. I Unsung two-year-olds, which have yet to come to the races, will make their maiden starts at Hollywood Park this summer. Many of the highest-priced Saratoga yearlings, purchased by western owners, will be asked to show their worth in "baby" races here. 1 Record lists of entries are expected for the second runnings of the 5,000 added Hollywood Derby and the 0,000 added Hollywood Gold Cup. Stakes range in distance from five and a half furlongs to a mile and a half. i 4
